Part 2 of my Scandinavian series takes us to Bergen, Norway.
You know when you have high expectations for a place and you get here and your expectations are met and you just have the biggest smile on your face – that was Bergen.
And why not Oslo? Because we wanted a break from cities in between Stockholm and Copenhagen. Besides Norway is quite well known for its nature and I was excited to see it.
Day 4 // Late arrival
We arrived into Bergen in the evening and made our way through the darkness and cold to our hostel.
The next morning we could finally see our surroundings and it was so peaceful and out of place to see houses perched on the hillside!
Day 5 // 777 steps later
Start of the hike // Stolzekleiven

Unbeknownst to me, this was a hike rated difficult! And I could see why shortly after we started the hike because of the steep incline up on rocks. But luckily it evens out and it becomes a smooth walk to Fløyen.
On our way down we took the furnicular for about 90kr each.

Sign in book at a resting hut
This was such a cute idea – started only a few months before we got there, it is a sign in book with people’s names from all around the world who had come to do the hike). It was great to put our names down and be part of this history 🙂

Day 6 // Norway in a Nutshell
This trip is a collection of transportation that takes you around one part of the fjords in Norway. It is a pricey ticket (roughly $250aud per person), but it is an easy option to get to the fjords.
I wouldn’t really recommend it if you get bored easily/ if you have the patience to make your own travel itineraries. I would also suggest coming in the summer instead of autumn so you can fit in some epic hikes such as Trolltunga and see the fjords from up high.
This is definitely on my own bucket list and I’ll be sure to return to do that next time.
But back to our tour – we had inclusions to take a train, bus, cruise, furnicular and train as a round trip from Bergen. Everywhere we looked was picturesque but oddly it was hard for me to take a nice picture with a stand out subject.
Bergen harbour
This is a UNESCO Heritage Site and when you walk through it you can see why with store fronts built into the wooden frames selling Nordic animal skins and traditional Norwegian souvenirs.
Day 7 // Rain and a hike
Hike to Blåmanen
More info about this hike here: https://outtt.com/en/adventures/969/bl%C3%A5manen
On our way up we had refreshing views over Bergen (on a much easier incline compared to the previous day ).
But on the way down…. it started pouring and at one point it was even hailing 😩
But luckily we made it back alive with another hike added to our names, and a steaming bowl of Asian rice and chicken waiting for us.
Found cheap Asian food at “Asian street food”
For about 90kr (9€) we found our cheapest meals which were actually really nice. Definitely check the store out if you’re in the area and you’re craving moderately priced Asian food!
New Somersby flavours // a game of heads up
On our last night we decided to play some games inside and try new Somersby flavours. My favourite was definitely elderflower lime 😍
It was a super chill night at our hostel and we definitely learnt a lot more about each other hahaha
