I had an interesting experience at the Twin Towers today which we visited after our trip to the Batu Caves! On my walk to the opposite end of the attraction, I asked someone to take a photo of me because my parents opted out of walking with me 🙁
However, when I asked, they didn’t seem to understand English. So I made myself comfortable with taking selfies.
But then a man selling fish eye lens came up to me and said “I’ll take the photo for you” (be warned there are a lot of these men walking around selling these lens because they know tourists will be sucked in haha). Knowing that he may actually have just wanted to sell something to me, or ask for money after taking the photo, I said “no I’m ok… I don’t have money for you”.
He said, “no it’s alright! I have one tongue not two [I’m assuming he was reassuring me he was not tricking me]”. He looked like a decent old man and wasn’t trying to trick me. So I said “ok” and gave him my phone.
As soon as I gave him my phone though and he started walking backwards, my heart did skip a beat that he would steal my phone haha but luckily he did as he said and he took some stellar photos. He then put on the fish eye lens to show me the difference between having a smaller focal length and having a larger focal length that could capture the majesty of the towers.
I was actually quite impressed but didn’t want to pay him for a lens after I said I had no money. So I kindly told him that I would think about it. And with that he gave my phone back and I walked off.
I told my parents about this when I got back into the tower and I decided “hey I should actually go buy one and support this man”.
So I went back out with my Mum this time, looking for him. Only problem was I actually forgot what he looked like 😅
As soon as I walked back out, all these individual sellers came up to me asking if I wanted to buy a fish eye lens. It made me appreciate that the first guy did not want anything from me or sell anything to me. He was just kind enough to take a picture for me.
I was walking around for a few minutes but I couldn’t find him. Then two of his friends I assume asked “are you looking for someone?” And then they pointed me towards him! Haha they actually remembered that he helped take a photo for me.
So I found the guy again and told him I would be happy to buy one. It was 30RM which is how much I would have paid for one if I did get it from eBay so I said why not haha
He then helped us take photos for my mum and I and despite the blur at the top. It’s still a really nice photo 😊
So I want to say, “thank you” to the kind man, who didn’t push a sale and ended up winning me as a customer. Sometimes we just need to trust people and the outcome can actually blow us away.
