I love to plan and be productive. So when I first moved in and I didn’t have a plan of attack, I did feel a bit lost.
It also didn’t help that I was living in a different apartment from the main student accommodation buildings (known as Verbs). I felt isolated and left out especially as I was living in an apartment where there was no common area. This made it harder to socialise with my roommates unless we stood uncomfortably in our tiny kitchen.
Eventually, I kicked myself into action and coincidentally found myself at Action (a K-mart-esque store in Tilburg that sells items from storage options, pot plants, cushions, FAIRY LIGHTS, soap, duvets, bike locks, cooking utensils). This has become one of my favourite stores for home shopping!
After a trip to Action, I had storage in my room and fairy lights. I was making my room my own so I could feel more at home. The end result is a room that I am comfortable in and glad to go home to. Below is an image of my wall above my desk where I put up my lights and decorated it with postcards from my European travels and other momentos. It honestly puts a smile on my face everytime I see it.
Because of this, I’ve ignited a passion for interior design and storage! All those YouTube videos I’ve watched of bloggers beautifying their spaces and making minimalist spaces finally had a purpose haha
I also did my first grocery run by searching through easy recipes online and writing down a shopping list of things I needed to buy for each meal. I ended up cooking my first meal of pasta and salami as well and I felt so proud of myself.
I’m hoping by the end of exchange that I’ll be comfortable making meals all the time (and give my mum a break from the cooking at home hahaha)!
