A perfect day in Positano

For the past few months, I’ve had an image from Positano as my phone lock screen, dreaming of the day I would be able to go and take my own lock screen photo. Today I was finally able to make it and it was everything I dreamt of and more.

Arriving by ferry

We caught the 920am ferry from Amalfi to Positano and arrived just before 10am to views I knew I would already love.

Ferry times from Amalfi

Via Cristoforo Colombo

It was beautiful everywhere we went! We didn’t have a set plan so we wandered around the main beach before heading to Via Cristoforo Colombo road to get the famous views of the slanted hill with colourful houses perched on its side.

Views from Le Sirenuse

I’d heard from youtubers and read from bloggers that Le Sirenuse was the place to be for amazing views, and it did not disappoint. The place itself is a hotel with a price tag of over $1,500aud a night that we definitely could not afford! But luckily for us, we were able to walk through the lobby and onto the balcony for photos.

We were also lucky enough to spend some quiet time on their bar lounge area because it was not open yet. It was designed like a tropical resort but with the view of the town in site. We made sure to recollect our energy here and take a few model shots haha

Finding my phone lock screen!!

After lunch we did more exploring and holy moly I found the place from my lock screen.

It was so surreal, I almost immediately recognised the lounge chairs from our high vantage points and the familiar flowers that lined the fence from my phone screen.

The path below seemed to be private but we walked on anyway and my gosh I was in awe. This was the place I had been looking at for months! I was actually astonished (even though the colours didn’t reflect golden hour as per the photo) and it may not have been the best view for others, but the fact that I found the place which didn’t have a location link attached to the original image I found was nothing short of amazing to me. I was over the moon and still am while thinking about it 😍

Here’s the image that’s been on my phone:

and here is me at the very same place…

I actually fell more in love with Positano!

Chez Black for lunch

Again I’d heard good things about this restaurant by youtubers and while it was on the pricier side, we were able to pick an amazing dish of black cuttlefish pasta (a favourite) and a spicy salami pizza all with a view of the beach.

I’m starting to like seafood dishes after this haha

Cuttlefish Black ink pasta was amazing! Don’t just try pizza in Italy!

Hand-made leather sandals

Next on my bucket list was to get hand made leather sandals while in Positano. The first place I visited didn’t allow sandals to be tried on first so I gave it a pass.

The I came across another store where someone else was already getting their sandals made. I was a bit hesitant because most styles I saw in other places didn’t look comfortable and because I couldn’t actually try it on to tell, I was close to giving up on the search. But here I saw a cute style that wasn’t like a thong AND I was allowed to try it on.

The lady (who is Thai but came to Italy 15 years ago) was so kind and let me try on any shoe I wanted. She was also very patient as I decided what style I wanted.

I finally decided on the below and they are sooooo cute. The lady’s husband was actually the one making the shoe and he told me he had been making them for 38 years and it was in 3 generations of his family! I found this to be super authentic and while there are actually so many places that make sandals for you on the Amalfi coast, this one was the best to me. Plus it was only 55€ no matter at what height, which I thought was a reasonable price.

You also get to choose what colour strap (beiges, blacks, Browns, Golds and silvers), what heel height (flat, medium and high) and what style (wise strap, thong like).

The husband is also as equally attentive and let me try on the sandal for size before configuring further.

What’s also great about these sandals is the straps are 100% Italian leather and so is the sole.

I love that I now have a bit of Amalfi with me 🙂 they are comfortable but mostly because I’m so close to the ground I might as well be wearing no shoes. Otherwise they could realistically do with a bit of cushioning.

They did survive multiple flights of steps to get to a Sita bus which I will go through later.

Another great part of the experience was after taking a look at the bites we had (they now looked like really severe mosquito bites), the lady offered to give us her “Thai medicine” which was an equivalent tiger balm. It was quite helpful because it burned away the need to itch hahaha

Name and address of the sandal making place I went to

Drinks at Poseidon Hotel

Great views with great company at Poseidon Hotel – with affordable drinks.

10€ for a Sex on the Beach cocktail and 4€ for a lemon soda.

Taking the Sita bus

Taking the Sita bus was definitely an experience I probably won’t need to do again haha! If you now about the Amalfi coast, it’s likely you also know about the winding road that passes through all towns which means you can fortunately make your way to new towns via bus easily for a cheap price (1.30€ compared to the 8€ ferry) BUT unfortunately this means enduring winding roads and often packed buses full of tourists (during peak season).

I definitely felt nauseous after a few turns and because we went in July, there was a lot of people we almost didn’t make it onto the bus. The first round was getting from Positano to Praiano. We luckily got seats for this one. But the second round from Praiano to Amalfi we were standing on a crowded bus, and let me tell you that getting back onto the ground in Amalfi was so reassuring!

But if you want a cheap way to get through the Amalfi coast, taking the Sita bus is an experience you should try for yourself. You’ll see just how close the cars, other buses and people are to the outside of the bus, it’s incredible and hair raising.

Pit stop at Praiano / Furore

By 4pm at Positano we were sipping away at our drinks and wondering what else we could do. I did want to visit another town (mainly Ravello) but it was too hard to get to. So we decided on Praiano as it was also on the way back to Amalfi.

The Sita bus took about 35mins with us not quite knowing which stop to get off at. But eventually we found ourselves at the top of the beach which was a neat little bay hidden into the cliff.

We sat for about an hour before heading back out to Amalfi via a different bus stop that required more climbing of stairs.

I now feel that my legs are becoming more toned because of all this walking ahhaha gotta work off the carbs from all the pizza and pasta someway!

In any regard, I probably wouldn’t recommend going to Praiano. Stay in Positano for the whole day instead and chill or take a book to read. It’s seriously relaxing for a day trip out 🙂
