This will be a bit of a short post but oh my gosh, we were meant to get to Rome from Salerno at 3pm today from catching a 12:29pm train.
From the beginning, the Trenitalia train was delayed by 10mins. Then it stretched into 15mins.
We finally got on board, but the train would stop moving and stay at a station for ages. The announcements came and went saying we were delayed by an hour due to technical difficulties on a previous train (not even our one).
This hasn’t dampened my spirits in Italy – I still love it, but man this train is so late. It’s been an extra 2 hours so far that we’ve been on this train. And we haven’t had food since breakfast at 9am (it is now 5pm).
Update: we finally arrived at 5:21pm – 2.5h later. Hopefully now we’ll be able to enjoy the rest of the day and find foooood.
Update 2: we finally checked in and to our surprise we had actually booked a Chinese run hotel haha so it was not quite what we expected.
Early dinner for amazing pasta
Trattoria Cecio – order the taglione seafood pasta and the ragatoni truffle pasta. You will not regret!
After skipping lunch to catch our delayed train, we were starving and this place did not disappoint.
We even met a fellow Aussie who was going on exchange to the Netherlands.
Walking around Rome
We then made our way around to the Trevi Fountain, the Parthenon and Piazza Navona ahead of our full day tour tomorrow.
During golden hour everything looked so glorious. I’m really falling in love with italy the longer I’m here.
Also had to get a gelato (or two) of course!
By the time we made it to the Piazza, it started raining! Our first real encounter with rain. We waited under cover for a while before braving the 30min walk back to the hotel. But not before it picked up again and we sought shelter at a Maccas of all places haha
Looking forward to the walking tour tomorrow!
