My favourite day in Greece beach hopping (Day 3)

Our last full day started with a much needed sleep in and a gyros for late breakfast from Lucky Souvlaki’s which was nothing short of amazing.

The theme of the trip in Santorini was definitely sleeping in – we woke up around 1030am on this day.

Kamari Black Beach

We then hopped into the ATV and drove 15mins to Kamari beach where we lounged under an umbrella for 10€ (for 2 seats), swan and ate icecream.

This is what I call a holiday. Just chilling and not rushing on a tight schedule. Especially after the episode of going to Ammoudi Bay and then Oia. I much preferred today’s slow pace and relaxation.

You will find families and friends here. You can even go cliff jumping! Just make sure to close your mouth haha (recap from day 2 was that Jono chipped his tooth while jumping).

Perissa Black Beach

Up next was Perissa (another black beach). It’s on the other side of the rock of Kamari but to drive there required going back out onto the road and around.

Something to note is that our 3G was horrible in Greece and travelling without google maps is hard. Try saving maps offline so you don’t get caught!

Back to Perissa, it was pretty similar compared to Kamari, so we opted to just chill and have a late lunch of pizza and Greek salad instead of swim.

We ate at Perissa Beach Bar and enjoyed the moment to chill under a fan.

Akrotiri Red Beach

After spending an hour or two at Perissa, we headed off to Akrotiri for the famous red beach! Note that it’s not red sand (it’s quite pebbly actually). The red comes from the cliffs.

There’s a 7min walk to get to the actual water from where the photo below was taken. It’s rocky, so be careful.

We got down to the beach around 630pm and budgeted to stay for an hour or so to allow time to get to the lighthouse for the sunset.

Our time at Akrotiri was very relaxing. And I fell in love with my burnt orange bikini even more haha

Note to appreciate yourself sometimes!

Akrotiri lighthouse for sunset

Next up was the lighthouse for sunset which our accomodation host told us was very romantic and a lot quieter than Oia.

And she was right.

We found a rock to sit on and take a few pics before enjoying the sun say goodbye for our last night in Santorini.

Also fun fact: I drove the ATV for the 15min journey from the beach to the lighthouse!! And what an adrenaline rush it was! I was driving at 40-50km/h and the wind that brushes against you is insane. You really feel free and in control. I definitely yelled “WOOOO” more than once hahahah

Dinner at Argo

When we got back to Fira, we decided to go back to Argo for our last meal. We splurged and got the lobster pasta for 2 which was 62€. Because of my newfound appreciation of seafood, it was not too bad haha

Bonus – day of checkout

Our flight was at 615pm and check out was at 12pm so we had time to kill. But firstly we were woken up by a knock at the door before 10am. I definitely thought it was house cleaning but turns out it was the ATV people who were early to collect the keys. I opened the door without any pants on haha

Late breakfast / early lunch at Mama’s House

We got another seafood pasta, but this time it was not as flavourful as Argo. We stayed for more than hour here before walking around in the hopes of finding a nice cafe to wait at.

Drinks at Volcan

We retraced our steps from the first day and walked up to Volcan for some drinks and a beautiful view.

I had a virgin mojito and Jono had an ice coffee. Both weren’t the best, but for the views and hours we spent there waiting, it was worth it!

And there we have the end of our Santorini trip!

Swimmer’s Itch

Something else to note is after swimming over the three days, Jono and I believe we were unfortunate to get Swimmer’s Itch which is an allergic reaction to parasites near fresh water shorelines.

We were red and splotchy and so itchy. As an extension to my precious allergies that I had to go to the doctors, Greece has not been the best for me in terms of health.

Even after a few days, we still have welts and they are savagely itchy. Please pray it’ll go away soon.

In the meantime, we are taking antihistamines and applying cortisone creams!
